At present, the disabled in Korea number well over one million. Because an increasing number of people suffer from disabilities as a result of accidents or diseases, in addition to those with congenital disabilities, we can no longer turn a blind eye to the pain and agony of the handicapped in our midst. They could be our own neighbors and family members. There are also a large number of teenage breadwinners, abandoned children in the care of public welfare facilities, and unsupported elderly people in our society who are left out in the cold. A little care and help on our part would go a long way to relieving the plight and wounds of the forlorn and underprivileged. It is wonderful to see many caring and warm­hearted good Samaritans making a difference in the community by volunteering their time and service.
