| Description | ||||
| August 24, 2002 marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China. During China's Prime Minister Zhu Rongji's visit to Korea in October of 2000, the heads of state of Korea and China agreed to designate 2002 as "the Year of People's Exchange between ROK and PRC".
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, Korea and China have made rapid progress in nurturing friendly ties and cooperation in diverse sectors including politics, economy, culture and tourism. Both Korea and China are each other's third largest trading partner and over a million people from Korea and China visit each other's countries every year. In commemoration of "the Year of Peoples' Exchange between ROK and PRC", various cultural events are planned for the year on the government level as well as the private sectors of the two countries. Through the strengthening of mutual understanding and trust between the people of the two nations, these commemorative activities are expected to significantly contribute to the development of mutually friendly relations between Korea and China. This joint stamp was designed to represent Korea's martial art "Taekwondo", and China's martial art "Wushu". The design was jointly drafted by Kim Dong-seong of Korea and Lou Wei of China. |
