This is the second World Cup to be hosted by Germany as West Germany hosted the world soccer tournament in 1974. Participated by teams from all 6 continents (4 teams from Asia, 5 from Africa, 4 from North/Middle America, 4 from South America, 1 from Oceania, 14 from Europe), the 2006 World Cup will hold matches in 12 cities across Germany, with the championship game held in Berlin -- the place of great historical significance where the Berlin wall was pulled down 17 years ago.
