Description
A multi-sport event for young, passionate university students around the world, the Universiade Gwangju 2015 will be hosted for twelve days from July 3 (Friday) to July 14 (Tuesday) this year in Gwangju, the city of democracy, human rights, and peace.

Organized by FISU (International University Sports Federation), the Universiade is a sports and culture festival in which young university students – the leaders of the future – learn about leadership, consideration and respect for others, and the value of sacrifice and sharing through sports. In this year's Gwangju Universiade, more than 20,000 student-athletes, coaching staff, and officials from 170 countries from around the world will come to compete fair and square in 13 compulsory sports and eight optional sports.

The Universiade Gwangju 2015 will be an EPIC event that upholds eco-friendliness, peace, IT, and culture. These are the values that Gwangju hopes to share with the world. Environment-friendly ways of doing things are considered in all phases of the preparations, and the spirit of FISU – promoting the harmony and peace of humanity – is to be shared. Cutting-edge photonics and digital technologies have been widely applied. Under the slogan of "Light Up Tomorrow," which signifies Gwangju's identity derived from its name meaning "the city of light," the Gwangju Universiade will be represented by an emblem called the "Wings of light" and the mascot "Nuribi." The emblem symbolizes soaring with passion, dreams, and harmony on the wings of five oceans (blue wings) and six continents (red wings). Nuribi is an angel of light who spreads the hope of creativity throughout the world.

The Universiade Gwangju 2015 will be a dynamic festival celebrating passion, sports, culture, and education. It is hoped that young athletes from around the world will share the value of international peace and co-existence that transcend national boundaries and race in Gwangju, the city of perpetual youth and light, and experience the culture, art, taste, and style of Jeollanam-do province, as well as the warm hospitality of the local residents.
