Description
We select the Azalea, scientific name of Rhododendeum mucronulatum TURCZANINOW, for the issue of April stamp of plant series. The Azalea blooms on all the hills and mountains in April and presents an enthraling picturesque scene. It is really a fascinating thing to every one`s eyes when the flowers are viewed in a warm shining day with their delicate exquisite tinge in pink and extended to adjacent hills. It is also an applauding amusement for children because of its rustic figure, peculiarly Korean children appreciate her by counting its stamens and enjoying with the eatable petals. It is a traditional custom of the country that the petals are generally used for making ""Hwa Jeon"" cake in order to give them a peculiar tast. Belonging to Rhododendron Family, it had wide elliptical, sharp-pointed leaves, and they fall in autumn. Their funnel-shaped pink flowers bloom in many lumps of 3-6 flowers before leaves sprout. It is also appreciated for gardening ornamental plant and the capsulated fruit ripens in October. The Azalea is distributed at 50-2000 meters high at the geographical features of all over the country, and it is also distributed in China and Japan.
