| Description | ||||
|
In September last year the government completed construction of a tourism center
"Freedom House" at Panmunjom, which is well-known over the world as a historical spot in Korea. This
elegant looking modern building of two storys, one hundred and fourteen pyung (345.42 square meter) of
floor space, with an octagonal pavilion on top of the building, was dedicated with a view to
delivering hope and love to our fellow countrymen who are languishing under the Communist tyranny and
yet ardently longing for freedom behind the iron curtain in North Korea.
The dedication of Freedom House is especially significant in terms of the history of Korean Armistice in that it symbolizes the truth that the bud of freedom is being sprung up all the more stoutly and vigorously and growing fast so that any freedom loving people may stop comfortably under its shade and enjoy its fruits some day in future, in spite of the fact that the vicious Communist is ever vigilant nowaday throughout the world for an opportunity to dare invasion and prey upon the freedom and peace of mankind. It is our wish that the echoes of noble ideology of freedom demonstrated by the Freedom House be resounded among every nook and cranny of the land in North Korea and further propagated all over the world so our long-cherished desire of national unification can be realized as soon as possible. With this purpose on mind and at the same time to make it widely known at home and abroad, the Ministry of Communications has scheduled to issue postage stamps of two denominations. |
