The 19th Consultative Committee of the Colombo Plan is slated for October 8
through 28, 1968 at Walker Hill Resort, Seoul, Korea. The Colombo Plan originated at the British
Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Conference which was held in Colombo, Ceylon in January, 1959, and
agreed to create "an organization for cooperative economic development in South and Southeast Asia".
The Plan officially accepteda report titled "The Colombo Plan for Cooperative Economic Development in
South and Southeast Asia."
The Plan, which has so far successfully promoted inter-governmental gratuitous aids, loans, material aids, and technical training, is presently composed of 24 member nations and 9 inter-governmental organizations. Korea became a member of the Plan at the 14th Consultative Committee of November, 1962. The scheduled 19th Committee will be attended by some 200 delegates including ministerial level. It will hear the present economic development situation of the individual member nations and discuss how to better cooperation among the members. it is also coordinate the export promotion policies of the member governments, and an ad hoc Ministerial Conference will be held. The Ministry of Communications will issue a postage stamp to mark the occasion, the largest one in ministerial level to be held in Korea, wishing that occasion will contribute much to our economic diplomacy and export promotion. |
