The "hare`s liver" tale is folk story derived from Byuljubujon and re-written for the children`s sake. The Byuljubujon in turn is a story appearing in the biography of Gen. Kim yu-shin which is a part of a chronological history of the three-nation ages. Later this story also become a popular song in the latter half of the Yi dynasty.

This tells a story as follows. A princess, a daughter of a dragon king of the sea, become ill and took to her bed. Every medicine was tried but proved no use. Then, a liver of hare living on land was recommended as prescription and a wonder drug for her illness. A turtle was immediately sent to land in hunt for the hare`s liver. A hare being lured by the wheedling of the turtle finally came along to the dragon palace to find himself being awaited by a fate of death. However, he narrowly escapes by his wit the dangerous moment, telling a lie that he took it out to wash clean and left it on a rock to dry.

As this folk tale has been handed down over a long period, being told as a story and sung as song, it has become rich with imagination and become a typical of the Korea folklore literature. This fable stamps will be followed by the third part of the fable series to be issued on next January 5, featuring "Sun and Moon"."
