| Description | ||||
| The 21th World Health Day falls on April 7, 1971. At the Second General Conference of the World Health Organization(WHO), which was held in Rome in 1949, the 7th day of April, on which the WHO Charter was approved, was designated as World Health Day. World Health Day has been observed also in the Republic of Korea, with stress placed on particular slogans adopted by WHO. This year, the catchphrase read: ""Early treatment of diabetes is the key to our longevity."" The World Health Organization, which was established as a special agency for the United Nations in charge of public health and hygiene at the Geneva, Switzerland, General Meeting of WHO on September 1, 1948, has devoted itself to the promotion of health of all mankind, regardless of the difference in political, racial, religious or economic conditions and backgrounds. It has thus contributed a great deal to the betterment of health conditions for all mankind around the globe, through the cooperation of various countries of the world, vigorously undertaking the sublime mission of checking the possible spread of diseases under control. As of now, a total of 138countries throughout the world are affiliated with WHO as its members, and its secretariat is located in Geneva, Switzerland. The Republic of Korea became a member with the support of a majority of member countries at the Second WHO General Meeting held in 1949, and has ever since carried out various joint projects designed to promote our public health in cooperation with the international health organization. The Ministry of Communications is issuing a commemorative postage stamp on this occasion in the hope that the people will come to better understand the significance of World Health Day and to cooperate with the world organization more positively than ever before." | ||||
