Six paintings have been chosen to be publicized in the fourth of postage stamp series to be released this time. They are:
   1. Five works of paintings depicting folk customs: These paintings have been selected from among a number of folk custom paintings by Shin Yun-bok, a famous artist in the middle of the Yi Dynasty toward the end of the 18th century. These pictures are 28.8cm long and 35.5cm wide and are owned by Chon Song-woo. A son of Shin Han--pyong, also a painter, Shin served the Yi Dynasty court as an artist. He is renowned for having developed a peculiar painting style of his own, with emphasis placed on realistic description. Famous works by Shin include the one depicting a beautiful woman, and others of people playing on the harp, people enjoying drinking at a country pub, and of a dancing sorceress. The scene of boating is one of the most representative of his works.
   2. Fairy and boy under a pine tree : This painting by Lee Chae-kwan (1783-1837), alias Sodang, toward the end of the Yi Dynasty is 140.4cm in length and 66.7cm in width, and is preserved at the National Museum. The author served the court as an artist and is praised highly for the exquisite drawing of smokes, clouds, plants and trees. Among his paintings are the one of a man tasking a nap and another depicting an exciting reunion of three old friends. Another painting depicting a poetry contest at a pavilion of Mt. Pukhan in Seoul also is well known.
