The three paintings chosen are:
   1. A genre picture by Kim Deuk-shin : A painting by Kim Deuk-shin (1754-1822), alias Kung jae, a well known painter in the middle of the Yi Dynasty. The original painting, owned by Chon Sung-woo, is 32cm in height and 35.8cm in width. The author served the court as an artist, and was good especially in drawing folk customs and portraits. Famous paintings by Kung jae include, among others, one depicting a group of people enjoying a drinking spree and another depicting a fairy.
   2. A painting of a family living in a valley
   3. A man enjoying book-reading at a village house:
   Both of these were painted by Lee Chae-kwan (1783-1837), alias Sodang, toward the end of the Yi Dynasty. Another painting by Sodang, "A fairy and a boy under a pine tree," was publicized in the fourth of this postage stamp series. The painting of "a family living in a valley" is 122cm in height and 56cm in width, and is owned by Lee Byung-chol. The other one depicting "a man enjoying book-reading," which is preserved at the National Museum, is 141cm high and 68cm wide. The author served the Yi Dynasty court as an artist and is praised highly for the exquisite drawing of smokes, clouds, plants and trees, portraits and flying birds. Among his other paintings well known are the one depicting a poetry contest at a pavilion of Mt. Pukhan in Seoul, and another depicting an exciting reunion of three old friends.
