The 5th Conference of the Presidents of the Supreme Courts in Asia opens in Seoul
on September 25, 1972. The five-day international meeting is the first of its kind ever to be held in
Korea.
The purpose of the nonpolitical conference, a gathering of many countries of Southeast Asia which will discuss their court systems, procedures and practices, is to promote mutual assistance among the member nations and cooperation with other countries for the improvement of the judicial institutions in the Orient. The first conference was held in the Philippines in 1963, the second in Japan in 1965, the third in Thailand in 1967 and the fourth in Australia in 1970. The Republic of Korea participated in each of these meetings. Attending the Seoul meeting are Australia, the Republic of China, Fiji, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, the Republic of Vietnam and the Republic of Korea. They are to study and exchange views on the following two subjects: 1. The judicial system for the deliberation of constitutional violations. 2. The execution of jubgments made by foreign courts. In order to give this historic conference broader publicity among our people and hoping that the meeting will contribute greatly to the common good of mankind by enhancing justice, freedom and peace based on the rule of law, the Ministry of Communications is issuing this commemorative postage stamp. |
