Ministry of Communications is issuing these two stamps as the third part of a
series of postage stamps featuring Korea`s national parks to give them broader publicity at home and
abroad. The new stamps depict the following two parks:
2. Mt. Sorak National Park (Designated on March 24, 1970 and Redesignated on October 13, 1972. Area, 344 sq Km) The Mt. Sorak area consists of the Inner Sorak, which embraces Inje County northwest of the Taeback mountain peaks, and the Outer Sorak, which covers Sokcho City, Kosong County and some of Yangyang County southeast of the mountain peaks. The spectacular scenery of Mt. Sorak and its adjacent seascape of East Sea combine to make the national park one of the most frequented tourist spots in the country. Major attractions in the Outer Sorak include Shinheung-sa Temple, Wasun Height, Bisun Height, Kwimyonam, Yangpok, Biryong Falls, Keumkang Cavern and Kwonkeum Castle, Noted tourist spots in the Inner Sorak are Paekdam-sa Temple, Oseam, Jangsu Height and Daeseung Falls. Especially famous is Madeung Peak which commands a panoramic view of the Inner and Outer Sorak as well as East Sea. |
