Description
The Republic of Korea, in response to the request of the government of South Vietnam, dispatched the 1st Mobile ROK Army Surgical Hospital to assist the war-torn country in September 1964. It was followed by the dispatch of the ROK Army and Marine Corps units respectively called Bidulgi(Pigeon), Chongyong(Blue Dragon), Maengho(Tiger), Paekma(White Horse), Paekku(Sea Gull), Shipjasong(the Crux) and Eunma(Silver Horse).

These expeditionary ROK armed forces have fought in South Vietnam for eight years to help it defend its freedom and independence against the Communists. Now these ROK troops are returning home with flying colors in the wake of the cease-fire agreement concluded on January 28. They have accomplished their mission well, measuring up to the high expectation of their nation.

Fighting numerous battles in tropical jungles and marshes and rugged mountains, the ROK soldiers demonstrated valor and tactical ability unrivalled by any other troops is that difficult, prolonged war. They were equally successful in their civicactions and pacification projects which made it manifest to the Vietnamese people that peace was their ultimate cause.

Welcoming and paying high respect to our homecoming troops who have made brilliant accomplishments in their expeditionary mission, the first such in our history, and who will now join the people at home in realizing the revitalizing reform, the Ministry of Communications is issuing this commemorative stamp.
