| Description | ||||
|
The year 1973 marks the 50th anniversary of founding of the International Criminal
Police Organization. Better known as Interpol, the organization was set up to prevent and suppress
crimes that have international ramifications, except for those which have political, military, religious
and racial implications.
For this purpose, member nations provide maximum possible cooperation within the framework of their own criminal laws and with due respect for the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Not only are such crimes on the steady rise but also the criminals' sphere of activities, mobility and methods employed are undergoing remarkable change as a result of the increasing international traffic of men and materials along with the advancement of the international means of transportation. Spurred by the growing need for effective prevention and suppression of these crimes, which in turn call for closer coordination among member countries, interpol has now become a full-fledged international criminal police institution. Hoping that the anniversary will provide fresh impetus to our police in their continued effort to maintain law and order in the nation in increased cooperation with the organization, the Ministry of Communications is issuing this commemorative stamp. |
