The 54th National Athletic Meet will be held in Pusan for six days beginning
October 12, 1973.
During the national Olympiad, more than 13,000 athletes representing Seoul, Pusan, nine Provinces and the Korean residents in Japan will participate in 26 events including track and field. Grouped into the high school, college and general public divisions, they will compete in a genuine show of youthful strength and athletic prowess to bring honor to their respective cities and provinces. The athletic meet is an annual sport festival aimed at promoting a sense of unity and perseverance among the people and enhancing the law-abiding spirit as exemplified by athletes who must abide by the rules of the games. It is also intended to emphasize the value of fair play, spur the improvement of the physical standard of the people and thereby elevate the national prestige in the world`s sport arena. The Ministry of Communications, hoping that the sport festival will provide yet another occasion to encourage the nation`s concerted effort to upgrade its athletic ability so as to insure a successful future for the country in the world of sports, is issuing these two commemorative stamps. |
