This multi-purpose dam project is planned as a part of the intergrated development plan for Han River basin with the object of advanced control of natural river runoff by the construction of a zonefill dam across a narrow valley in the Soyang River.

The development of the potential water resources at this dam site will generate a substantial amount of electric power. Annual energy production will be 353,000,000 Kwh. with an installed capacity of 200,000 Kw. This power will assist greatly in meeting the rapidly increasing power loads that accompany the booming economic development of the Republic. The firm water supplies will also be essential to the increase of power generation at down-stream power plants, agricultural production and the growth of industry.

The Ministry of Communications is issuing this commemorative postage stamp in honor of the successful construction of the dam and with a purpose of wide publicity of its inauguaration to home and aborad.
