The United Nations, during its 25th General Assembly, resolved to declare 1974 World Population Year. Accordingly, it has called upon all the countries of the world to undertake various programs and campaigns to emphasize the need for effective population control. Despite their vigorous efforts to free themselves from poverty, disease and hunger, most of the developing countries of the world have not yet overcome these ohronic human sufferings. They all came to realize that the snowballing population increase, if left unchecked, will cause quick depletion of natural resources, aggravate food shortage and spread environmental pollution, ultimately bringing a catastrophe to all mankind.

In observance of World Population Year which is designed to encourage the world to make a concerted effort in tackling the grave problem of population, our country has embarked on a variety of programs to enlighten the people.

The Ministry of Communications is issuing this special postage stamp in order to inform our people about the significance of World Population Year.
