Description
The 27th United Nations General Assembly resolved to designate 1975 as International Women's Year, and all the countries of the World are urged to sponsor various events designed to uphold the cause of the World body.

The designation of 1975 by the U.N. as International Women's Year comes at a time of growing World recognition of the importance of women in the promotion of peace, economic and social development plans and population programs. In spite of the fact that women, who account for more than half the World population, contribute a great deal to the development of mankind, they are still ill-treated when compared with men in terms of social status and remuneration. Thus, the designation is aimed at breaking the long-established discrimination of women in treatment by means of increasing understanding of the need for improving the status of women in developed and developing counties alike.

Highlight of the year will be and International conference, at the government delegation level, the first World meeting on the promotion of equality between men and women to be held in Mexico city, Mexico, in June under the sponsorship of the United Nations. Delegates from the Republic of Korea will attend the conference for an exchange of views with their counterparts from throughout the World on how to enhance the social status of women.

With a view to realizing equality between the two sexes by means of accelerating qualitative development and expanding social activites of women, a colorful program of events will take place in Korea.
