Description
The Ministry of Communication is issuing Postage Stamps of the Flower Series through which 10 kinds of beautiful flowers grown in Korea are to be introduced widely both at home and abroad. In this first part of a series, Jebikkot(violet) and Halmikkot(snrmonr Pursatilla koreana) are presented.

Jebikkot.
Jebikkot, a kind of perennial plant, which is also called Orangkaekkot(savage flower), Ssirumkkot(wrestling flower) or Banjikkot(ring flower), is easily found in springtime anywhere, in mountains and fields across the country. It is small but very cute. As many as 65 kinds of flowers belonging to this family grow in Korea with their petals having a variety of colors such as dark purple, yellow, white pink and violet. Jebikkot has a honey bag with it. While Taebeak Jebikkot and Dunggeuntol Jebikkot are very fragrant, most of the other kinds do not smell.

Halmikkot.
Also called Nomocho(old mom plant) and Baekduong(white-haired, aged man), Halmikkot grows in various districts of our country. Its flowers bloom early in spring and have six reddish-purple petals. Pistils fixed to the seed look like white tails when grown up. Roots of Halmikkot are used as medicine in malarial fever treatment.
