| Description | ||||
| President and Mrs. El Hadj Omar Bongo of the Gabonese Republic will come to the Republic of Korea on a four-day state visit from July 5 through 8, at the invitation of President Park Chung hee.
The Gabon Republic which is located along the Atlantic Ocean near the equator that cuts the continent of Africal transversely, became independent on August 17, 1960. Its population is somewhere around 1,000,000 and its land area amounts to 267667sq km. Gobon abounds in such natural resources as timber, manganese, uranium, petroleum and ferrous ores, with per capita income topping as much as US $675 in 1972. Under a compulsory education system, children in that age category are receiving education, boasting the highest percentage of school attendance in Africa. The Republic of Korea extended recognition to the Gabones Republic right after its independence in 1960, and since 1962 has been in formal diplomatic relations, enjoying a close friendship with this African country. Welcoming the state visit of the president and the first lady of the Gabonese Republic to our country, at the same time praying for further cementation of already existing relations of friendship and cooperation between our two countries, the Ministry of Communications is issuing this commemorative Postage Stamp. |
