Description
The Ministry of Communications has chosen Bokdo(Buddhist drum dance) and Bara Dance as the theme for the fourth of its Postage Stamp Series depicting Korean Folklore

1. Bobko(Buddhist drum dance):
Bobko, along with the Butterfly dance and Bara dance, is one of the ritual dances performed at Buddhist temples in Korea, only once at the end of a ritual. A monk performs this dance beating a drum after worshipping the Budda with folded hands. While the monk dances, another monk also beats a drum to the time of the dancer. The appearance of the monk dancing at a high speed to the cheerful tone of the drum, like a bird fluttering on high, coupled with the pious atmosphere of the Buddhist rite, gives spectators a somewhat mysterious feeling.

2. Bara Dance:
Bara Dance is performed mainly by a pair of male priests clad in long grey coats and wearing reddish scarfs. The monks pick up Bara(a kind of cymbals) placed in front of the Buddist altar, one in each of their hands, and start dancing, striking together the cymbals with their hands. This dance is performed by the monks usually on the same spots, with the dancers turning around repeatedly. The cheerful sounds of cymbals that float and glitter around in the air, along with the smart and light figures of dancing monks forment a vivid and active atmosphere.
