| Description | ||||
| It was 90 years ago in 1885 that telecommunication facilities were first installed in Korea.
Telecommunication may well be said to be the most advanced and convenient device ever created by mankind. that plays an essential role in the various fields of human activities such as economy, culture and national defense. On this occasion of observing the 90th anniversary, we are proud to note that the telecommunication service in our country has continued to develop, especially in the past 15 years, keeping abreast with the grand plan for economic development and the modernization of our fatherland. Just to cite a few examples: all-weather microwave(ultra-short wave) communication facilities were established in 1967: a satellite communication earth station was set up in Kumsan in 1970: and in 1974 a coaxial cable was laid between Seoul and Pusan. Thus , the telecommunication service of Korea, which has been playing successfully the role of the nation's nerve network, also is contributing a great deal to the promotion of mutual relations of friendship and cooperation among the member nations of International Telecommunication Union. In observance of this significant anniversary, the Ministry of Communications is issuing this commemorative postage stamp, pledging anew to better serve the people through the development of all the more convenient means of communication. |
