Description
September 28 has been designated by the International Tourism Organization as International Tourism Day so as to have all the countries of the world observe it every year by sponsoring various worldwide events designed for the promotion of international tourism and friendship.

A colorful program of events is to be held also in Korea for the purpose of formenting a tourist atmosphere through having all the people recognize anew the importance of the tourist industry. In observance of this meaningful day, the Ministry of Communications is issuing commemorative postage stamps with Mt. Sorak and Yeongweol Gossi Gul(the Go's Limestone Cave in Yeongweol) as their themes in order to publicize the tourism industry of Korea, thereby contributing to the promotion of international tourism.
1. Yeongweol Gossi Gul:
This cave, located in Yeongweol County, Kangwon-do Province, is formed with stalactites and has been designated by the goverment as Natural Product No. 219. It stretches as long as 6.3§° underground and abounds in waterfalls and lakes in addition to thousands of queer-looking stalactites, presenting quite a grandiose view as a whole. As the temperature inside the cave stays at 16 degrees Centigrade all year round, Yeongweol Gossi Gul is an ideal resort in summer and winter alike.

2. Mt. Sorak:
Mt. Sorak, which stands 1708m above the sea level toward the East Coast as one of the Taebaek Mountains, has long been noted for its splendid mountainous scenery. In summer, it offers an ideal resort with its numerous rocky peaks, valleys and waterfalls. In winter, it attracts a great number of alpinists with its snowcovered steep rocks. Indeed, Mt. Sorak is one of the best tourism spots in Korea all around the year.
