| Description | ||||
| The 10th anniversary of the Foundation of the Asian Parliamentary Union falls on November 30, 1975.
The APU was officially inaugurated at its 1st General Conference held in Tokyo, Japan, for five days from November 10, 1965, with a view to guarding freedom and democracy and building a lasting peace and prosperity in Asia, by means of promoting unity, economic cooperation and cultural exchange among the nations of Asia. It embraces at present seven member countries, including the Republic of Korea, and three observer-nations, and is composed of the General Conference, Board of Directors and Central Secretariat. It also has such organizations as the Asian Development Center and the Asian Cultural Center under its jurisdiction. Our country became one of its initial members by sending our delegates to the 1st General Conference. And the Korean chapter of the APU, organized on February 15, 1966, has contributed a great deal to the development of the regional legislator's organization, especially at its 1nd and 9th General Conference. In observance of the 10th anniversary of APU, the Ministry of Communications is issuing a commemorative postage stamp in the hope that all the parliamentarians in Asia will further exert themselves in firm unity for the building of an eternal peace and prosperity. |
