| Description | ||||
| On December 5, 1975, the cross-country railway linking Inchon Port along the West Coast to Bukpyong of the East Coast will be electrified, marking another epoch making event in the history of the development of our industrial railways.
During the past 76 years, since the opening of the Kyongin Line(#33) from Chemulpo(old name of Inchon) to Noryangjin on September 18, 1899, the railway network of our country has contributed a great deal, as the major artery of Industrial transportation of Korea, to the modernization of our fatherland economically, socially and militarily, overcoming a variety of difficulties and hardships. For the modernization of our railway network, part of the Chungang Line, from Chongryang-ni to Chechon, was electrified on June 20, 1973, as a project envisioned for the Third Five-Year Economic Development Plan period. On June 20, 1974, the electric railroad was extended further to the Taebaek Line. Again on August 15 of the same year, electrification of railways in the capital area were realized by linking the subway of Seoul to Inchon, Suweon and Seongbuk. On this occasion of having the cross-country electric railroad opened from Inchon Port in the West to Bukpyong in the East, the Ministry of Communication is issuing a commemorative postage stamp in celebration of the historic event. |
