Description
The Ministry of Communications is issuing the third part of a series for Bird postage stamps with Wood Pigeon and Oyster catcher as its theme.

1. Wood Pigeon:
The Wood Pigeon is a glossy black pigeon of 38-44cm long and its iridescent color of green and purple sheen plumage can be seen at close range in sunlight. Being a local resident, this bird lives in offshore islands, often in the vicinity of villages. In Korea, this kind of pigeon is found only on Ulreung-do and some of the small islands off the south coast. Some forty birds were seen on Ulreung-do in 1956 and a few of the birds are on verge of extinction and are protected as a Natural Treasure.

2. Oyster catcher:
The Oyster catcher is a 43cm long rotund black and white wading bird which is usually hopping in shallow water. Its head, breast and back are black and the rest of underparts are white. A line of white stripe appears on its neck during winter. This bird has along red bill and pink legs. The Oyster catcher, an uncommon transient migrant in the southern parts of the Korean peninsula, lives on the coast, sandy beaches, estuaries, mudflats and rocky islands, and occasionally spends the winter on the south coast of Korea.
