Description
The Ministry of Communications is issuing these two stamps as the fourth of a series designed to introduce butterflies of Korea:

1. Hestina assimilis Linne:
This butterfly, which belongs to the Nymphalidae family, has black wings with blueish-white stripes on them. On the rear black wings are five vermilion figures. Frequently seen in the areas south of the central portion of Korea from the middle of May through August, its larvae feed on Chinese nettle-trees and Celtis jessoensis Koidzumi. This butterfly also can be seen in Manchuria and China.

2. Graphjum sarpedon Linne:
Belonging to the Papilionidae family, this butterfly has a variety of markings on its wings ranging from blue ones to the yellowish-white. It can be seen in Korea sometime in April through August, and comes into birth twice a year. The one which is seen in springtime is less bluish and smaller than the summer ones. Its larvae feed on the leaves of Magnolia obovata and Aucuba japonica Thunberg. This butterfly, which we see in Korea only in such southern areas as Wullungdo. Jejudo and Wando Island, is also seen in China, Japan and Taiwan.
