| Description | ||||
| The Ministry of Communications is issuing the fourth in a series of postage stamps depicting birds of Korea, with Platalea minor and Ciconia nigra as the themes.
1. Platalea minor(Black-faced Spoonbill): This bird usually lives in low lands along the sea coast, reclaimed lands, tidelands, reed and rice fields, and is seen in Korea in summertime on the islets along the southwest coast and in the Nakdong River estuary. 2.Ciconia nigra(Black Stork): About 96cm long, this bird is a kind of glossy black stork, with its lower part being white and its legs and bill red. It lives on fresh-water fish, frogs and insects; in inland plains, paddyfields and shallw rivers. A rare summer bird, the Black Stork is seen in Korea only in the Andong district in Gyeongsang Bukdo Province. As the bird is on the verge of extermination, it is under special protection by pertinent authorities. |
