| Since the year of 1974, when the International Tourism Organization designated September 28 as International Tourism Day, the Day has been observed annually by all the countries of the world with various international programs of evevts designed for the promotion of international tourism and friendship.
In observance of this meaningful day, the Ministry of Commounications is issuing commemorative postage stamps, for the second consecutive year, with Chamsungdan of Mt. Mani and Ilchumun of Tongdosa Temple as the themes for the purpose of publicizing tourism sites in Korea, thereby contributing to the promotion of International tourism. 1. Chamsungdan, Mani Mountain: Ganghwa Island also is noted for such historic remains as Jeondungsa Temple and Samnang Sung. Hwamunsok(grass mattress with figures of flowers on it)is one of the special products handmade on this island which is situated northwest of Seoul. 2. Ilchumun, Tongdosa: The main hall of Tongdosa Temple, which is designated as Treasure No. 144, is renowned for having no Buddhist statue enshrined. |
