Description
Celadon Vase for Plum-blossoms and Inaid White Porcelain Bowl have been selected by the Ministry of Communications as the theme of the fourth in a series of postage stamps designed for publicizing the ceramic products of ancient Korea both at home and aboard.

1. Celadon Vase for Plum-blossoms, Black Koryo Ware:
Designated as Treasure No. 340 this celadon vase which was produced in the middle of the 12th century during the Koryo Dynasty is 27.6m in height and 4.9cm and 16.7cm each in mouth and body diameter. The body of this vase is coated with an iron pigment, and then the design of ginseng leaves is painted in white slip. Finally the vessel is covered with a glaze of celadon type and fired. A slight glazing is seen over the surface. Where the glaze is not well coated green or greenish-black can be noted. This wase is considered to be one of the excellent celadon pieces of the Koryo Dynasty.

2. White Porcelain Bowl Inlaid with Lotus Vine Patterns:
National Treasure No. 175, this ceramic bowl produced in the 15th century of the Yi Dynasty is 7.6cm high and is 17.5cm and 6.2cm each in mouth and bottom diameter. Patterned after the white porcelain of Koryo, this bowl sometimes gives a touch of something like plaster. The wall of the vessel is very thin, with the glaze showing delicate glazing. In general the bowl makes a silk-mild impression. A strip of vine patterns is seen along the inner side of the mouth, while the lotus vine patterns are inlaid in black on the surface between the mouth and the bottom of the bowl.
