Description
The year 1977 marks the 50th anniversary of the Korean Rotary club which joined rotary international in 1927, following its founding.

The rotary international movement was initiated in the United States in 1905, and has become by now a global non-official organization for social service. Boasting a total of 16,973 clubs in 151 countries and territories throughout the world with members topping 800,000 in number.

The rotary movement in our country, which was commenced in 1927, had to be suspended for a while following the outbreak of the Second World War. In 1949, soon after the founding of the Government of the Republic of Korea, the Rotary movement came back to life again with the establishment of Seoul Rotary club. The club has firmly established itself as a diplomatic mission on the civilian level. All its members work closely together for the achievement of their sublime ideal of social service and World peace, taking park actively in raising scholarship funds for the education of the nation's youths.

The Ministry of Communications is issuing a commemorative postage stamp on this occasion of observing the semi-centennial anniversary of the Korean Rotary, the basic sprit of service and social purification, which is the very same as that of the Saemaul Movement, in the hope that all our people will further devote themselves in closer unity and cooperation to the building of a better and more pleasant society to live in.
