Description
December, 21, 1979 is a special day when Choi Kyu-hah, the present Acting President, will be inaugurated as the tenth President of Republic of Korea. He was elected President last December 6 by the National Conference for Unification with the support of the overwhelming majority of its Members.

He was born in Wonju, Kangwon province on July 16, 1919. He first started his government career in 1945 and has since served the nation in various offices including Ambassador to Malaysia, Vice Minister, and then Minister of Foreign Affairs. In all his jobs he worked with superior ability, integrity of character and self-less devotion to his duties, which in turn combined to bring him in 1975 the appointment as Prime Minister. He proved himself a respected Prime Minister who showed excellent capabilities in harmonizing the nation and administrating the Government, displaying no distance at all between himself and the general public.

At this critical point in our history, we all the Korean people put our complete confidence in the new president as the man who will control and stabilize our political situation with wisdom and vision so that our economic development will go on without a moment of pause. We also expect him to lay the foundation for the advancement of our political system that matches with our social and economic development.

The Ministry of Communications issues this commemorative Stamp both to celebrate the auspicious occasion and to manifest the nation's determination to help him achieve successfully the historic task we have imposed on him.
