On September 6, 1950, in the vortex of the Korean War, the Women's Volunteer Corps Training Unit, which was later to become the Women's Army Corps, was formed in accordance with the proposal made by patriotic leaders of the womans' movement.

During the War, the WAC not only helped with the army administration and communications in the rear, but performed duties in the front, placation the enemy, questioning the prisoners of war. In the hard years since its birth, the WAC has grown up into a strong, well-organized army of elite troops. It has produced a fine woman's military cadre trained on the WAC creed of knowledge, courage and beauty, thus contributing to the strength of the Korean Army as a whole. Consisting of youthful volunteers who are mindful of the critical situation of our country today, the ROKWAC is playing an important role in heightening Korean women's sense of national security and defense.
