Description
The 53rd American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA), "World Travel Congress" is being held in Seoul September 25-30, 1983. It is expected that the Congress will be attended by nearly 8000 travel agents, including those from 128 different countries.

The opening and closing ceremonies, plenary sessions and various seminars will be held at the Sejong Cultural Center. Besides the formal functions, there will also be an ASTA trade show, which is put on at the Korea Exhibition Center (KOEX). ASTA, the world's biggest and most influential association of travel and tourism professionals, serves members by providing educational programs, promoting the exchange of information, and working to advance the interests of the travel agency industry on the one hand, and to safeguard the traveling public against any possible unjust practices on the other. The organization, consisting of people engaged in various tourism-related industries, also works for the promotion of personal friendship between its members. It is of special significance that the 83-ASTA Congress is held in Korea, which will also host the "86 Asian Games", and the "88 Summer Olympics".

We hope that the ASTA Congress will serve to make our unique culture and tourist attractions known to the world. We also hope that the 200-odd foreign reporters expected to come to cover the ASTA Congress will travel around and help let the world know about our country.

The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp in commemoration of the meaningful event of the 53rd ASTA World Travel Congress being held in our country.
