Description
The year 1984 marks the hundredth year of Korean postal service.

In commemoration of the occasion, the Ministry of Communications and the Philatelic Fdedration Internationale de Philatel(FIP), will put on a world postage stamp exhibition, PHILAKOREA 84, at the Korea Exhibition Center(KOEX), Seoul, from October 22 through 31, 1984. In addition, the Minstry of Communications is issuing a series of postage stamps under the title of "Korean Postal Service, Yesterday and Today", with thematic materials that show Korean postal service in its historical contexts. The follwing two kinds are the last in the series:

1. Pre-Modern Period Postal Symbol and Post Box.
This depicts the pre-modern period postal symbol, which features the initial letter of the Korean word for post, and the post box of the time.

2. Today's Postal Symbol and Post Box.
This depicts the new postal symbol, created by the Ministry of Communications Corporate Identity Program, and the post box being used today. The new symbol features the swallow, a bird symbolizing speed, reliability and friendliness.
