Description
The 24th Olympic Games will be held in Seoul September 17 through October 2, 1988. The Olympaid, which traces back to the athletic festival of Ancient Greece, makes its ideal to bring forth a peaceful world. "Harmony and progress", has been adopted as its ideal, and will be long remembered as a glorious event in our history.

In celebration of the event the Ministry of Communications will issue eight kinds of stamps each year from 1985 until 1988. The two following stamps are the second of the series.

1. Track and field.
Track and field, which is made up of track, field and road events, is the most basic of all sports because it comes from man's most basic activities : running, jumping and throwing. The sport has developed and prospered ever since the First Olympic Games, held in Athens, in which it took its position as the most central sport of all. Track and field in Korea started in school athletic meets, the first of which was held on May 2, 1896.
