Guinea-Bissau, located in West Africa, bordering Senegal and Guinea, gained indepenednce from Portugal in 1973. The country has a 36,125sq. km. area and 800,000 population, about 60 percrnt of whom believe in the local folk religion. The main part of the country's economy is agriculture, in which 90 percent of the whole population is engaged, producing peanuts.

Guinea-Brissau is pursuing non-alignment as its diplomatic policy, but is also trying to promote co-operation with the Western World. Guinea-Bissau and our country established ambassador-level diplomatic relations in December,1983.

The Ministry of Communications issues this commemortive postage stamp as a token of our hearthy welcome on this occasion of President Joao Bernardo Vieira's sate visit to the Republic of Korea.
