| Description | ||||
| This is the 20th year of normalization of the Korea-Japan realtions.
Diplomatic work toward noralization ot the Korea-Japan realtionas started on both sides in October 1950, but it was not until June 22, 1965 that the Treaty on Basic Relations between the Republic of Korea and Japan was signed. On December 18 of the same year the Treaty was ratified by the national assemblies of both countries, and thus the realtions were normalized between Korean and Japan. It is true that there were periods of unfortunate relations during the long years of mutual history between us two neighboring countries, but the way to a new age of friendly relations and mutual assistance was paved by Prime Minister Nakasone's visit to Korea in 1983 and President Chun's visit to Japan the following year. The Ministry of Communications issues these stamps in commemoration of the 20th year of normalization of the Korea-Japan relations, and also in hopes of seeing our relations of friendly cooperation ever more improved and solidified. |
