| Description | ||||
| "Tasan", Chung Yak-yong, the theme of the design for this definitive postage stamp, is a great scholar of the latter period of the Yi Dynasty, well-known for his comprehensive study of practical science, his keen interest in public welfare as science and his pioneering of Western learning.
After passing the highest civil service examination in the 13th year of King Cheongjo's reign, he was raised to the official rank of "Seungji", but was later exiled because of his religion of catholicism. At his place of exile, however, he continued his studies, concentrating on Confucian studies, for 19 years. A man extraordinarily talented in writing, he authored subjects from public administration, to forestry. |
