| Description | ||||
| It has been one of our most urgent tasks to solve the long-standing problem of backlogged subscription orders, by enlarging our facilities so that we can install telphones right after subscription orders are taken.
Since 1980, we have made every effort to realize this dream of ours, adding an average of one million new lines per year. As a result, 85 years after the introduction of the telephone to this country, the dream has at last come near to being realized, as another Korean miracle. We have now passed the ten million mark in the number of telephones installed in our coutry. This is nearly a three-fold increase over the end of 1980, when we had only 2.8 million telephones through-out the country. We have today grown to be the 10th biggest country in the world in the number of telephones installed, and the age of one telephone per household has thus dawned. It is largely the ultramodern communications technology, put into practical use since the second half of the 1970's, that has made it possible for this achievement to be made in such a short time. The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp in the hope that this meaningful event of our surpassing the 10 million telephone lines will strengthen our basic desire for the forthcoming age of information, and open a new chapter in our communications development. |
