| Description | ||||
| The world is changing from an industrial, to an information society, causing every nation to exert itself to ride the irresistable current of change, lest it should fall behind.
The Information society can be characterized as one in which information plays as important a role as do materials and energy in industial society. The information-based world of today has an unimaginable amount of information, together with the capacity to store, process and distribute it, utilizing it to help people in their mental and intellectual work, not only in the office but also at home. Compared with some advanced countries, however, Korea still has a long way to go before the realization of information society is achieved at all levels of national life, due to our insufficient understanding of the necessity of change, resistance to computerization, and slow adjustment to high-tech information equipment. This led to the institution of the "Month of Information Culture", which has been observed during June every year with various public functions designed to stimulate the nation to a keener awareness of "The Information- Age" dawning upon them. The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp in commemoration of the Month of Information Culture in hopes that all of our nation will have a better understanding of information culture in which we have already begun to live. |
