| The 1970's marked, for many nations, rapid development of telecommunications technology, which has universalized the recognition of telecommunications as one of the most important forms of social overhead capital, bringing about ever-increasing demand for it. Every country of the world, in consequence, has steadily increased its investment in telecommunications, assigning it a central role in the social, economic and cultural life of the people.
The level of telecommunications of a country is today regarded as a measure that sizes up its national strength. The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) is a permanent regional organization of nations, set up ten years ago today, for the member countries to cooperate in order to meet the demand of the times, specifically to promote balanced development of telecommunications in the region, solve various possible problems special to the region and coordinate the planning functions and managing processes between the telecommunications authorities of the region. The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp in commemoration of the "Tenth anniversary of APT", hoping that it will continue to contribute to the development of telecommunications of the Asia-Pacific region. |
