| Description | ||||
| The 1988 Seoul Olympiad, opening on September 17 and lasting for 15 days, was not only the biggest in history participated in by 160 countries, but also one which was held more successfully than any other ever. It was a world sports festival of understanding and friendship, and of harmony and peace, which drew admiration and praise from the whole world. To us Koreans, the Olympiad was a rare occasion on which we were able tp show the world the five thousand years of our culture and tradition, as well as a historic festival which made a great contribution to our national harmony and pride.
The Ministry of Comunications issues this postage stamp in commemoration of the festival held in memory of the unforgettable 1988 Seoul Olympics, and the world Korean ethnics sports festival, a meeting of Koreans home and abroad held to share pride in being Korean and commonness of blood. We hope that these events will help us continue the graet spirit and ability of our nation demonstrated through the Olympics, and sublime it to a new goal of national movement toward achieving "Glory to the nation" and "Peace to the world". |
