Description
The Ministry of Communications has been issuing special serial postage stamps with some of our popularly loved songs, expressive of our unique national emotion as the theme of stamp design, with a view to introducing Korean songs to the world. The following two kinds of postage stamps, which are the sixth of the series, feature two of our most representative folk songs, Pakyon-pokpo and Chonan-samkori.

1. Pakyon-Pokpo.
This song is generally so called because it begins with that phrase, which is the name of one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Hwanghae province, but Kaesong's song (a town in Hwanghae province) "Nanbongga" (a playboy song) is the formal title of the song, which belongs with the western-province nanbongga. Though categorized as a Kyonggi province folk song, it features a strong influence of Hwanghae province folk songs, bearing a remarkable resemblance to them.

2. Chonan-samkori.
Also called "Hungtaryong", this song belongs to the category of Chungchong province folk songs and is sung to the beat of the music of exorcism. How and when it was made is unknown.
