| Description | ||||
| This year marks the 40th anniversary of the UNICEF activities in Korea. UNICEF (the United Nations Children's Fund) is an agency created in 1946 by the UN General Assembly for children's welfare. UNICEF, with its representative offices in 120 developing countries and its committees in 34 other countries, is engaged in activities concerned with improving the health and nutrition, and ensuring the survival, development and happiness of children throughout the world.
Some 1.5 billion children are now living in the parts of the world where UNICEF is working. In Korea UNICEF started its activities in 1950 when most of our country was destroyed and remained desolate on account of the war, and has been working for the past forty years, since then, for the nutrition and health of children, the welfare of the poor both in urban and rural areas, the health of mothers, the early education and intelligent development of children, and occupational training for women. The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp in appreciation of UNICEF's activities for our country. |
