| Description | ||||
| "World Environmental Day", adopted by the 27th UN General Assembly in 1972, is observed for the 18th time on June 5 this year.
Living on the polluted earth of today, with acid rain falling on it, we only remember the good old by-gone days when we liked to walk in the rain, feeling romantic in doing so. Environmental destruction, realized through the pollution of land, air and water, the destruction of the ozonoshere, the hothouse effect on the atmosphere, and acid rain, has long been recognized as a serious threat to the survival of mankind. "World Environmental Day" was declared with a view to awakening the world to the imminent danger of its destruction, and the countries of the world have since been ever more seriously concerned with the protection of the environment, financing research works, making laws, staging national campaigns, to fight for the environment. The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp in order to further intensify our nation's concern with our environment. |
