| Description | ||||
| For nine days, August 8 through 16, 1990, the Korea Boy Scouts have come to hold its eighth jamboree since the foundation of the organization in 1946.
As a matter of fact however, the present organization is preceeded by the Chosun Boy Scouts, which was founded as early as in 1922, but was forcefully dissolved in 1937 by the Japanese colonists. The Jamboree aims at providing our youths with an occasion in which they can train and cultivate their bodies and minds, acquire skills useful for social service, and build a firm patriotic outlook for their country and nation. There is furthermore, a special aspect to this Jamboree, for it also serves as a preliminary exercise to the 17th world Jamboree, which is to be held in Korea next year. This is the reason that the present Jamboree is held at the same place, for the same period of time, and with the same theme "Along with Nature" as that of the 1991 World Jamboree. The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp in commemoration of the Eighth Korea Jamboree, and also with a view to promoting the Jamboree's healthy aims throughout the nation. |
