Description
The "6th World Telecommunication Exhibition" (TELECOM '91) is a quadrennial event organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). TELECOM '91 the largest exposition aiming at joint development in the telecommunication field, will be held in Geneva, Switzerland from October 7-15 ,1991.

In addition to the opening ceremony and exhibition, ITU will host on all aspects of telecommunication, by presenting "The Golden Antenna '91 Film Festival", the "Youth in the Electronic Age Competition'91", and the "World Book and Audiovisual Fair on Telecommunication and Electronics".

The history of Korean telecommunications marks its beginning when the telegraph service between Seoul and Incheon was intiated in 1885. And, the telephone service was introduced in the late 1890s. After that beginning, the Korean telecommunication sector became to achive quantitative growth in the 1960s and the 1970s. As a result of the increased investment and the renewed awareness of the importance of telecommunication, Korea is now about to enter the ranks of the advanced countries by developing and manufacturing optical communication and automated switching facilities, by its own technology.

For this TELECOM'91, Korea will send a large delegation to Geneva in order to show the advanced Korean telecommunication technology as well as to secure technical cooperation and a foothold for international activities. The Ministry of Communications will contribute to the welfare of people, by issuing this postage stamp, to celebrate the "6th World Telecommunication Exhibition and Forum".
