| Description | ||||
| Along with economic development, the growth rate of energy consumption has gradually increased. Especially for energy-deficient Korea, dependence on foreign oil has shown an increase of 14% during the past 11 years, from 73.4% in 1979 to 87.6% in 1990, while the dollar amount used for oil imports has increased by 45% from US $7.5 billion in 1989 to US$ 10.9 bilion.
The current trend shows more rapid growth in energy consumption for non-productive purposes than industrial production. On top of the fact that the growth rate of energy consumption exceeds economic growth rate, energy is consumed inefficiently and in many cases over-consumed. Recalling the difficulties during the two oil shocks and the Gulf War, we need to restore the virtues of conservation, rather than insisting on the selfish pursit of one's own conforms. With the hope of repressing over-consumption of energy in non-productive sectors and also seeking more efficient energy consumption in production, the Ministry of Communicationas issues this postage stamp. |
